Don’t be afraid of vintage watches. Many people are worried by real mechanical movements breaking and by plastic crystals and the lack of water resistance. To put these fears to rest, old mechanical movements do need looking after but they were built to last. Plastic crystals are cheap and easy to replace or polish. To be honest I don’t recommend putting any watch in water unless of course it is a divers watch. Even then however I recommend having it checked often to ensure the seals are still good.

Don’t stop at Rolex, Omega watches are wonderful and so are Universal Geneve, Vacheron, Audemars and many others.

eBay can be a very profitable place to buy Rolex watches, used.  I have bought several way under the market value of the watch. For instance, I have bought pre-owned Submariners two tone, which are usually over $4000 used, and $7000 new for under $2500 unsed! You have to be very careful, because there are many Rolex Watches on the market are not real.  Make sure that the seller has a high ebay feedback rating. Definately nothing less than a feedback of 20, and preferably over 100 with no negatives.

Does it looked scratched? Nicked? Dented? That will decrease from the value of the watch. Is the logo on the clasp visible? Are the links very loose and stretched? It may need a new band. The value of your Rolex will depend on these things. If it is just a slight scratch on the crystal it is not too important. They are not extremely expensive to replace. And the old model plastic crystals are even less money.

6. Get a band that fits your needs as well. Luxury watches should have equally luxury band and be very secure. Whether they come with a metal, leather or cloth band of some kind be sure it fits the look of the watch as well as it’s use.

Luxury watches will tell time well but they do need to be reset every now and then to be exact.

Also understand that self winding watches (which wind with body movement) need to worn regularly if not they will need to be reset.

Don’t get caught up in how many jewels are in the works the workmanship is more important.

Does this guarantee the watch is a real Rolex?

Absolutely not, the counterfeiters have been putting on a hologram sticker on the back for years. The holograms can be purchased by the sheets on ebay so do not assume that because the watch has a sticker on the back that it is real.
Do I decrease the value of the watch by removing it?

Not at all, since over time the sticker will wear and become a sticky mess. Also like I said above fake stickers can be bought so Rolex buyers these days don’t really care if the sticker is on the back.

piece of metal or wood.

- If you place your watch flat on its back, dial up, do place a cloth between the case back and the

bracelet.

- Do use Loctite 220 on the bracelet screws so that bracelet does not accidentally come off. There are

enough horror stories about people that have lost their watches because of loose screws. Rumor has it

that Rolex uses Loctite 220 as well.

- Do make sure that the crown is screwed in at all times.

- Do wear your Rolex as often as possible.

- Do get your Rolex serviced every 5 years. Hopefully from a certified Rolex watchmaker. We can help

- If you watch has stopped, don’t violently shake your watch. Nice and soft swirls, just like swirling a

fine red wine in a wine glass, to get the rotor moving will do the trick.

- Don’t over tighten the crown. You don’t need to. The seal inside the crown has been designed to sit on

top of the stem and form a perfect hermetic seal against the elements. The more you tighten it, the

greater the pressure exerted on the seal which will eventually break with the pressure against the top

of the steel stem… eventually losing its efficacy as a waterproof seal.

- Don’t worry about scratches on your Rolex. Scratches give it character.

- Don’t worry if you should or should not remove the hologram on the case back. Eventually, it will come

off.

- Don’t fret about your Rolex gaining or losing 2 seconds every month.

- Don’t open up the crown more times than necessary.

- Don’t use anything stronger than Loctite 220 to ensure that the bracelet screws stay in place.

- Don’t buy your Rolex from fleabay. Plan on spending your money wisely.

- Don’t polish the center links on SS watches to make them look like something they are not. It’s tacky,

please don’t do it.

- Don’t wear short-sleeve shirts in the middle of winter to show-off your Rolex. You’ll catch pneumonia.
